My daughter, age 23, works in Kabul, Afghanistan, a city that has been attacked several times during the last few weeks, and again yesterday. Today I wrote this poem, which I dedicate to Dan Wilcox of Albany, NY.

SHE IS SAFE  (SO THEY TELL ME)
they strongly condemn the violent attacks
they strongly condemn the vicious attackers
inside the compound: in lock-down: my daughter
Again
they strongly condemn the barbarous acts
they strongly condemn the cowardly bastards
inside the compound: in lock-down: my daughter
Again
so they tell me
they strongly condemn the 23 heinous atrocities
they strongly condemn the 23 random slaughters
their 46 statements released during August
tell on, tell on–
they strongly condemn the uncountable rapes
they strongly condemn the uncountable rapes
inside the compound: in lock-down: our daughter Again
so they tell me
they condemn in the strongest possible terms
Again
Encore
Yeshche raz
De nuevo
Aufs Neue
Tekrar
Marrat ‘ukhraa
Phir
Tena
Zàicì
Ancora
they strongly condemn the most senseless and terrible
waste
inside the compound: in lock-down: my daughter
