picture009Last night I finished reading Selected Poems by Tomas Transtromer (edited by Robert Hass, with several translators).

What stunning metaphors! Metaphors that seem to quicken from an inborn reflex, rather than from an intentional effort to invent correspondences.

TODAY I BEGAN TRANSLATING INTO SPANISH THE INAUGURATION POEM BY RICHARD BLANCO. MY TRANSLATION IS A PRIVATE TASK, NOT TO BE PUBLISHED ANYWHERE. IN THIS PHOTO ARE MY ROUGH DRAFTS.

To prepare for tomorrow’s Cuban-American inaugural poet, today I  read poems by men and women with roots in Cuba. Poets  J. Martí, N. Guillén, J. Kozer, RM. Rodríguez, D.M. Loynaz, J.L. Lima, H. Padilla, N. Morejón.
