Month 2:27

For better or worse we both pledged so many years ago,

a Republican winning the heart of a Democrat, peculiar

bedfellows, reddish and bluish, cancelling each other out

in voting booths. What matters more: these November nights

when we drive side-by-side to the polls at School 16

and salute the flag there, its stars and stripes, its square canton

and rectangular span, its solemn way of being folded and tucked

by two patriots into a triangle, our equilateral pillow.

  1. I think many couples can relate to this, Therese!

  2. I like the alterations you made to this from the first draft, especially “equilateral pillow”.
