Month 1:9

Inspired by the phrase “signature wounds” in President Obama’s Oval Office speech, August 31, 2010.

The signature wounds of war

are not elegant scripts, handsome stamps;

they are hasty scribbles, red scrawls

meant to spell “anonymous.”

  1. Powerful lines, Therese.

  2. “handsome stamps”—sooo goood.

    That would be a great name for a collection (or for a band actually).

    I’m loving these concentrated, dense little gems…

  3. We might use elegant phrases but your piece highlights the fact that reality is very different.
