#25 NaPoWriMo

.

APRIL 25 — Here is my poem #25 for National Poetry Writing Month, composed in response to a prompt on ReadWritePoem: write about the first words heard after reading this prompt.

.
Untitled

I didn’t know you were in here so late
still writing at the kitchen table,
maybe tweaking a sonnet. Petrarchan?
You didn’t know I was hoping to come close
to rub your shoulders, kiss the top of your head.
What could you be thinking
or hearing, what can you know over there
all alone (so you presume)
struggling to perfect your love poem?

NOTE TO READERS: After I first post these daily poems for NaPoWriMo, I continue to revise them in the hours, days, and weeks after the first post.
