picture009Last night I finished reading Selected Poems by Tomas Transtromer (edited by Robert Hass, with several translators).

What stunning metaphors! Metaphors that seem to quicken from an inborn reflex, rather than from an intentional effort to invent correspondences.

  1. I love the golden aura of your photo.

    Take the yellow out-
    The world turns cold.
    Yellow-bellied fools
    Make courage bold.

    Sunlit yellow
    Transforms to lime;
    Turns cool and then
    It’s violet’s time.

    Yes, the reflex is ne’er contrived!
